A Research on e-Commerce released by the Observador Cetelem shows that e-commerce in Portugal is growing, with about 32% of the Portuguese consumers shopping online.
The main advantage of e-commerce mentioned by the inquired users is the convenience of accessing a platform where one can purchase all kinds of products, with bigger stocks, and the fact that one doesn’t need to go physically to shops.
Among the less positive aspects of e-commerce, they have pointed out the difficulties in returning products and the time it takes to deliver the orders.
The Observador Cetelem research also traces the profile of online consumers: males, aged between 25 and 44 years old, from upper middle class. Most consumers prefer to do their shopping from home, and only a third has admitted to do it at work.
Moreover, 81% of consumers indicated they make their purchases on brand sites and a significant percentage visits sites such as Amazon or Ebay.
The fact that 68% of Portuguese consumers still do not shop online is explained by the fact that Portugal has an old population, with less access to technology, especially those who live outside the big urban centres.
