LATAM in the Face of COVID-19

The first COVID-19 case in Latin America was registered in Brazil on February 26 and the first death was announced in Argentina on March 7. Since then, the coronavirus has been widely spreading to the rest of the region.

 

Faced with this scenario, each nation in Latin America has taken different measures to deal with the consequences brought about by the pandemic. This report is a fortnightly summary of the main measures adopted in public health, economy, and other measures that governments and multilateral organizations have implemented to better manage the situation.

 

Multilateral organizations: Inter-American Development Bank, Pacific Alliance, Development Bank of Latin America, Caribbean Community, Andean Community

  • Allocate funds, strengthen multilateral cooperation and policy unification, promote the circulation of key medical supplies and information, encourage technology integration, harmonize biosafety standards, and apply for financial assistance from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
